The Perilous Crossing

Dear Reader,

Do you ever have dreams where people are chasing you and you are running in slow motion? Or how about dreams where everything around you seems to be collapsing and falling apart and almost being gored by a yak? Well, I haven't had those kind of dreams in a long time but I do remember having them. I guess I was subliminally thinking about this painted illustration as I prepare to take my cargo ( family ) across the left coast. I wonder what adventures will be in store for us? Luckily everywhere we will be staying has WiFi so we will at least be connected. I mean, as an American, we do have our standards...unlike those wood plank bridges in China.

How would you liked to have been a fly on a beer mug at the White House ( no pun intended ) yesterday at the Booze Summit ? The funniest bit of commentary about this was on the Daily Show where John Stewart interviewed The Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore. If he looks familiar he was the guy who taught sensitivity training in one of the funniest episodes of
THE OFFICE. You can see the episode for free on Hulu.com . Its Tuesday's episode.

I need a vacation , I'm starting to get a wee bit cynical ....hey bartender , give me one of those cold ones on tap...........adios caballeros

  3. gored by a yak?........

I use to have a dream I was on a dirt road alley with a dead end. Your typical dirt path truck trail with grass in the middle of the tracks. The alley was surrounded by tall solid plank wood fences. At the end of the alley was a solid black bull with white horns. The bull would rear its head to the gound and star charging me. Instead of running, I waited for it, anticipating the worse. The bull gorded me in the groin, and then the dream would blank out as if the pain would cause shock....then there would be nothing.

    It's all about nothing?

  5. Paul,

Why am I up at 3 in the morning? I just had a reoccuring bad dream .I'm sure it has a lot to do with driving down to So Cal and part of the time staying with my folks whereupon my Dad really works me over. I guess I'm one for being sadistic.

I read your post and climbed back in bed and started to think about it. It had the feel of one of those Luis Bunnell / Dali movies. Then it kind of hit me and I realized if I'm going to have insomnia I should at least be productive.

I think ( my 2 sense ) the dream is possibly a psychological portrait of how you process pain . It may mean that you are a practitioner of Stoicism. Where part of your emotional reaction to events is detached and you will not allow yourself to be committed and hurt. In essence , you are invincible to confrontation and do not feel ?.

Now how is that for a load of pshycho crap? Hey, its 3 in the morning...whadda you expect!

    f

    be safe and feel

  6. Sherry....I kinda know where the professor with the fly up his butt is coming from . I have a realative that sees Racism everywhere. He blames the white man for all the problems. Professor Gates , when he saw the Cop, probably had a visual image of a guy with a KKK hood on and reacted as if he was back in the 60's.

  8. Paul,

Its 3:30 in the morning...I definitely have insomnia and I am definitely obsessive compulsive.

I think the dream addresses Death. Is it all nothing? Is Death an illusion? Since you suffered no ill effect other than numbness ( Stoicism again ) you are grappling with your deepest fears of Death and the unknown...thus you were in an alley road which is a metaphor of danger and the unknown. The Bull represents the risk of living .....

If you are in your twenties than this is a normal dream. The flying dreams are where you are in fantasy land and want to escape.

More crap but my couch rates are cheap...

  9. Paul,

Dr. Frank's last analysis is that you are FEARLESS of Danger. The fact that you did not run away and took the goring from the Bull shows that you were willing to be addressed. It also implies that you are courageous. The Bull can also be a symbol of someone in your life and you are taking a shot from them and survive.

How's that for more crap from the couch

The dreamer usually knows which anal ysis is closest

  10. I was up late at night because it was too hot.

I watched a lot of Star Trek growing, a big Spock fan, so my stoicism probably developed from geeking out over Star Trek reruns......plus everybody was on drugs then and acting like self centered spazes.....Roland Young - Burne Hogarth types.

I think I'd rather be Stoic.

I was having that bull dream during my teens and twenties. I haven't dreamt it in a long time.
