Coach Hatfield part 1

I will be in Don Hatfields class again today and I feel he can get me to the next level in terms of color and composition. After the class he asked me...Why are you in my class...I mean you know and can do this stuff Frank? I replied that I felt that I needed some shaking up and that I wanted him to strap me in an Art Bungee Cord and throw me over a bridge. I needed a coach per se...all the great athletes have coaches...Why not artists? Even though Don uses photo reference he can never be accused of blindly following a photo. His work swims in color and his compositions feel right to me....I want me some of that and I feel priveledged to be around him. His energy level is contagious. We are both wild in many ways .......

So again, I have a busy week finishing the front cover of a CD illustration and then meeting a Doctor in Davis Ca to paint his family...very exciting and then off to pastel sketch in Mendocino Ca for 4 days starting Friday with 4 families from our Art Fellowship Group...... We will stay at the Lords Land

  1. Sheesh... No moss grows on you, does it??

Yeah... I think no matter what stage you are in as an artist, it's important to have coaches/friends/colleagues/critics who help you see from a different angle or perspective.

It's not that you want to paint like THEM, but we all want to grow. Didn't the impressionists all paint with one another (and hang out together)???
