Bodega Bay Road Trip

Well, I am back from a wonderful road trip to Bodega Bay and the small beach cabin worked well for our time there. I stayed at my buddy John's place and it  affords wonderful views of the Dunes at Bodega Bay.

I plan to write and post more but I am including a short post for now. I will upload photos soon. So come back for some nice shots of Bodega Head as well as the Bay.

I had'nt Plein Air painted for awhile and I felt pretty rusty. So to make matters easy for myself I tackled a sunrise shot of a grove of trees across from Salmon Creek which runs in front of the cabin. I painted with a Simmon's  Bright brush and I went for blocks of color. I used a modified Zorn Palette. From all we can tell , Alders Zorn added Cobalt Blue to his ensemble. I added that as well as adding a Cad Yellow to brighten the Yellow Ochre. The term Yellow Ochre  can apply to a whole host of earth yellows and how rich Zorn's Ochre was .... we can only speculate.

In this semi disaster ... I used no Cad Yellow and just let the colors work the long hard tonal scale. I'm very much into tormenting myself.

......more soon

It ain't easy being me, and I'm not even a fraction of you.
I'm happy to hear you had a fun get away!

  2. Fun reading, and I don't see any semi-disasters! Do you mean that you had a hard time getting a light enough value because you didn't use Cad Yellow?
