Can you See where your mind can be conditioned to give a certain response?
Maybe you heard that ACDC song in your head.
Like I tell my wife ... make sure you hear the whole sentence and thought before you make an assumption and yell at me.
Now off to talk to the students at William Jessup U.
___
I've uploaded some ol quirky stuff... only because Bob challenged my manhood..... ;v) and yes Bob I did these goofy cartoon sketches ... it keeps me sane in a insane world ... by the way I have 30 sketchbooks ....
______

Frank, did you draw that cartoon?
ReplyDeleteIt's great!
I think artists that do or show only one type of their art are making assumptions also!
They are quite capable of expressing themselves in other ways that can be enjoyed by many.
However they don't want to 'rock the boat.'
Meaning, I talked to an artist who was at the top of his field. He painted beautiful wildlife/landscapes that were printed in limited editions, hand signed and sold most everywhere. He held the title of being the number 1 print artist in America!
Anyway, as we talked, he commented how he loved abstract art.
I said,"why not paint/print one and see what
happens!"
"Oh-no!" he responded,"It could ruin my career!" People come to expect a certain " "
from you, and if you do anything different, it could ruin everything.
I don't know if he was assuming, or if there was concrete evidence of this. All I know was that I loved his art, and so if he painted something different, yet loved doing it, then I would like it also.
I feel as if I can't mention names,so I won't.
However another artist (Canadian) in that same arena published a book of his paintings. There in the front pages where paintings of abstracts he'd done.
Didn't hurt his career a bit!
Where am I going with all this?!?
When we assume, we make an Ass of U & Me(Ha!)
We are trying to control "stuff" to stay in a comfort zone. Boaring!
Taking that leap of faith is pioneering new turf. Fresh ground to be "farmed" to grow a fresh crop to nourish..
ok i'm going to shut up now. I hope you post this!
Hey Bill... thanks for encourageing me. I have scores of cartoon type drawings that I never marketed or thought anyone one would like. I just did them for fun. So I have posted some of my scribblings..... most from my other forgotten Blog Or'Doodle.
ReplyDeleteblessings bro
When I looked at these (great) cartoons, I said to myself, "no wonder Frank paints so well.. he has superb drawing skills!". Yeah, even in the cartoons.. It's there - the design, the great line quality, and just the actual modeling of forms... plus some great imagination (okay, some of it is a bit quirky but I love it)
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could make a weekly calendar of these..
Deb... you guys don't know what pandoras box you are about to open... i mean .... i don't even let my boys look at these books
ReplyDeleteI LOVE them, Frank! It gives us a tiny glimpse inside that wonderful noggin of yours. :-)
ReplyDeleteOkay Mary...I posted more and thanks for getting me started.... release the hounds!
ReplyDeleteFrank ! These are great! Fun stuff! MORE!!!
ReplyDeleteBill... Are you serious. Other than the "other" Blog. I have not been serious about these cartoons. In fact ... I started doing these at " Art Center College " and one of my teachers said ... Frank...You are NOT paying all this money at AC just to become a cartoonist... I gave up serious thoughts about it after that .....
ReplyDeleteFrank, I'm sure your teacher ment well, but why would he want to amputate a creative source, that's the well you had a tap on?!
ReplyDeleteMy art director said something of the same thing.
I rebel then, I rebel now!
These are just great !!!!!
