Frank - the new website looks great!
ReplyDeleteMary...Are you sure? I need to put my best foot forward ...so please feel free to make ANY suggestions....;v)
ReplyDeleteFrank, your new site looks fun!
ReplyDeleteThis new painting of the guy with the hat looks
real and not staged. I can feel the sunshine
and a sense of friendship to him.
I don't like to be judgemental, but thumbs up
on this. I admire your talent Frank!
Frank! It's great!
ReplyDeleteOne thing you can do is to create a direct link to your blog in that front page text.
Log in, and then go to "Edit Main Page information".. that will pull up the screen with your text that says, "if you want to find out what Frank is doing....etc."
Up in the tool bar above the text block is a little chain - click that and enter the
url of your blog. You don't have to fill in all that other stuff. I think the "target" is either "not set" or "new window" - try it both ways and see.
That way folks visiting your website can click right over to your blog, instead of having to copy/paste the link in.
Deb and Bill thanks ... I'll try that Deb ... so far the FASO site is pretty easy to navigate once you know where all the items are ...
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm sure. FASO does a really nice job on the websites of it's artists - they all look very professional, yours included. Deb is giving some good advice too.
ReplyDeleteLooks good
ReplyDeleteLooks good so far, Frank. I'm sure you're going to add some bio information to what you have, as I think people find that interesting. So far, so good.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a problem with getting the thumbnail images to enlarge to a decent viewing size. In portraits I clicked on the first image and get an error note, second image same thing, and so on. I was able to click on the second to last portrait to get it to enlarge then go in reverse to look at the rest of them. Normally I would not have patience to do that but as you are asking how the site works I felt I need to check it out and see what does work. The first and second landscape also does not load a larger image the 3rd one does.
ReplyDeleteteresa... thanks i'll go check that out... the site sizes the enlargements to their presets...
ReplyDeletethanks a bunch Teresa ... it was working last night but I am getting the same error messages you got today as well .. hmmmmm ... i've contacted technical support ....
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get the "Galleries" link to work at all, and the "Works" link doesn't allow me to access the different categories. Hopefully they'll fix this for you soon!
ReplyDeleteI like the new website, and the work you're displaying. I look forward to getting to the point of having so many finished works to share!! At first I found the gold borders a bit distracting, but I seek the connection to the grid layout and the consistency from one page to the next is elegant and well thought out.
ReplyDeleteI have seen another artist with the exact same website. IMO, presentation makes a difference and having the same presentation as someone else doesn't really look all that good. The thumbnail size thing is a little annoying too.
ReplyDelete-Dave
I like your new website too; jumping from one portrait close-up to the other showcases the different moods and personalities among the subjects. That enhances all of them, so it's a good set-up!
ReplyDeleteI'm not commenting much, because lately I'm in the mode of 'shut up, and learn!' But I'm still a regular reader of yours.
Dave.... Actually... hundreds of artists have this same template. Even such heavyweights as Mian Situ have this template.
ReplyDeletePresentation is very important ( how many bloggers share the same template? ) but in the end I would rather have good work.
For now, the hosting at FASO seems like a good deal. After some big sales ... maybe a more snazzy website .....
Agree anyone?
Frank,
ReplyDeleteObviously a website doesn't make the artist. I do think a website can be more personalized to you so your presentation isn't blending in with hundreds of other artists, no matter how heavyweight they are or not. I like the ellenshaw.com website, and I think a lighter presentation suits your current body of paintings more than a dark color scheme. Just my opinion.
-Dave
Hey Dave,
ReplyDeleteI am partial to a light background however I'm leaning to darker greys these days. I do plan to modify the colors once I get a little more on there and I do plan to do a custom logo for my name which the tech taught me how to do yesterday.
However... I am not groovin on the Ellenshaw website. I met both of them at my time at LucasFilm.
If I had the extra cash I am partial to these presentations .....

Thanks for the input ... I value your opinion
f
The tallenlawson.com website is nice, it's a little more basic and seems to cut right to the chase, images are at a good size and easy to browse through them. That painter has a good style don't you think? Btw, your painting style looks similar to Mian Situ, why aren't you charging $75,000 per painting? How do people get to that price point anyway? Must be good marketing.
ReplyDelete-Dave
Dave ... From your words to buyers pocketbooks! Thanks pal ... I needed that boost today!
ReplyDeleteTim Lawson is a good painter... I saw him at a PAPA event in Lodi Ca 3 years ago. Good guy....
Dave...
ReplyDeletebtw ... Situ's paintings are going for $300,000+ at the Autry Show!
f
$300,000+? Wow, it must be connections in high places and/or good marketing. I mean the paintings are nice but seriously.
ReplyDeleteHey Frank, the only thing I don't like is the size of the final largest display. The thumbs are an okay size just to get a lot on the page but I love seeing some of the brushwork. Lawson's site has that happening. Thumbs to browse, medium size views to view quickly, but the kicker is to have the next click to enlarge them even more. Love coming back to his site just to see the details. Your work deserves that kind of exposure.
ReplyDeleteHi Frank..The new website is looking great. Hope you're keeping well. Sorry so little to say..seriously trying to stay out of blogger and twitter lol.
