More Outdoor Painting
Braving 95 degree heat at the American River Confluence I was a glutton for Plein Air torment. Luckily, I could dip my sweaty feet in the river to relieve the blistering heat. Dead fish soon appeared floating ...But Art is a seductive mistress and I needed to paint the bridge yesterday. I gave it a good hour and a half and I was wishing I was the young man in the middle of the cool slow moving lazy river .. can't you just hear Satchmo croon out that tune?
This quick effort was no more than 20 minutes as the light was changing and I was just going for effect of light on Lincoln Way where the Gallery is located. I'm looking north up the hill. Somehow I really like this one even if the drawing is pretty bad. I painted this an hour ago and I was painting a street that's very crowded around 10 o' clock but at 7:30 in the morning I am King of the Road.
I was in total painting heaven. I was positioned about 20 feet from the gallery and I had my music blasting out into the street through my open door. It was sooooo awesome. No buddy complaining about the Family Force 5!

Sounds and looks like heaven... Even if you did kill of several dozen fish... LOL.
ReplyDeleteMarian ... I hope Heaven is not THAT HOT!
ReplyDeleteGreat atmospheric perspective in the first one Frank - I can feel the heat haze. The second one has beautiful shadows - so cool against the light from the setting sun. Well done!
ReplyDeleteSomething about Family Force 5 blasting from old town Auburn just makes me laugh! Those are some great plein air paintings. I forget how fast you are - that is a lot for 20 minutes!
ReplyDeleteFascinating work.
ReplyDeleteIt has been delightful
to visit your gallery.
Good Creations

ReplyDeleteYou have serious skills Frank. I have been in painting heaven too. It's a great feeling.
ReplyDeleteLove these plein air paintings, especially the street. Too bad painting outside is such a challenge most of the time.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie .... I just connect with the immediate sense of capturing what I see and sense in front of my nose!
