Another Auburn Local .... John Downs 1.2

John Downs is a local contractor who actually dresses in cowboy attire every day. It's his thing and he is an authority on Wyatt Earpp , Wild Bill Hicock and Doc Holliday among others. He is also an avid Tea Party member and sure has a solid vision where he wants the country to be. He is very much a salt of the earth kinda guy and I am glad we are becoming friends.

He posed for the first hour of this portrait and I finished it off after I took a photo ... mainly for the details.

I can't ever pass up a good model and I am currently using him as a model for Moses as he encounters the burning bush. This image is an out take as the client does not like the idea of the cloak masking his face. I think it's more interesting and it is one of those times where I will paint this scene for myself after the job is finished. But as they say  .... you gotta give the client what they want.

  2. There's so much truth in this one that it looks like he could tell me real stories about his life...even thugh he is a mass of perfectly placed brushstrokes. Great balance of tight realism of finish with just the right amount of lose brush expression in other places.
