Workshop Demo

This 11 x 14 oil demo was painted in front of my Lincoln Hills workshop. Its a real fun group and they are enthusiastic learners. Today I taught them about pre mixing strings and keeping the palette simple. We are talking about a 3 hr set here.

The colors used were Titanium White , Yellow Ochre , Cad Red Light , Cobalt Blue , Pthalo Blue , and a hint of Ivory Black. Try mixing Yellow Ochre with the black and a hint of the sky color and you'll see how the hills can still feel green but lay back in space where they should be.

This is actually the first seascape that I have painted from a ground view. I feel kinda embarrased as there are so many good experienced seascape artists who are wave and water reflection wizards. Making the water feel wet and active is a real skill set.

I had the class add a crashing wave as there was not a spraying wave in the photo reference.

Another demo.... this time I demoed painting an Iris . However , it just so happens that a client came into the Gallery and wanted 3 - 8 x 10 Iris Paintings. I thought this was a good time to show the process of painting a flower.

  4. Hey Mary ... I was thinking about that the othet day ... I am actually slowing down. I am very hyper active ... I gotta always be doing something ... and If I don't... I'm usually exhaused and crashed out.

I apply myself very much like a sports athlete. I believe in leaving it all on the field. In my case , I believe in putting as much energy into the painting as I possibly can.

I have actually finished off this seascape by the foam. I used a palette knife to apply another coat of paint and to design the shapes better. But . I'm actually to tired to photograph it to show..... ;v)

  5. Beautiful painting Frank! love the colors you used. I also love Colorize it.. I just finished a portrait of myself on my wedding day. Apparently the photographer didn't use good paper and I'm slowly disappearing so I painted myself before I totally disappear.! You're very talented and I'm looking forward to seeing your next painting!!
