The Traveler HAS to be finished by Monday in order to enter it in the Smithsonian's portrait competition. So finally , I took a good photograph of my progress. I fit in time painting on it while working on money making illustrations. Frustrating but necessary.

So what's keeping me from working on the Traveler? A painting for LifeWay of David and Goliath. They require a tight drawing so that the editors can all review the staging. Then its off to the reces after approval. I don't show too much of my illustration work here .... but this is an exception.

Our friend Christina walked into the Gallery yesterday while I was painting this. Notice that I now use my iPad as my source to paint from.

Today I am groovin on Grits. These Christian Hipsters really get me swishing the brush.

Frank, it looks great, and good for you for finishing on time. I see their date has been extended to Nov. 30. Don't know if I can finish one of mine that I have in mind, but I may try, must fit in commissions too, and thanks for the reminder about this competition.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! Great job, Frank! Still wondering about my question several days ago - if you do a painting of someone in a public place and post it on the internet without getting permission from him first, can you get into trouble? I know you have been really busy.
ReplyDeleteMona ... Really ... that's great .... I sweating Monday's deadline!
ReplyDeleteMary ... Sorry . Actually you can. Luckily I was able to meet the young man and get his verbal approval. But in these litigious times , someone can really hold you up in court if they want too .... except if they are a public figure ... then its open season .... go figure.
ReplyDeleteFrank, The Traveller is perfect. I can't imagine what else you could do to it! He looks very much like a friend of ours, and so when I look at it, I feel like I know this young man, and the reasons for his lifestyle..... I just love it.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck in the competition..
The Traveler is just wonderful. You have certainly created an amazing piece here, the clear colors, the sky behind truly seems to shine. The glint in his eye, the smile of approval that seems to be an unspoken "high five." One can't help but love it! Do let us know how the competition turns out. In my humble opinion, you certainly have a winner!
