| Meet the Birches 16 x 20 oil on linen |
My Studio - slash - Gallery will be open to coincide with the Placer Arts Studio Tour this Friday , Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 6 pm. I've done the tour 4 years in a row and this year I decided to go it alone. We'll see if it is a success or a mistake. Wine will be served ( a no no if you are on the tour ... it's an insurance thing I hear ) at the Gallery as well as the usual goodies.
I will be busy painting and demonstrating my "Technique " for anyone and anything breathing. It will all be good. Credit cards accepted . So good to have PayPal!
After I finished the painting of the Birches , which reminded me of an Old Couple , I wanted to paint a subject where it was all about color. I was looking to focus on a feeling of lavender and green. The aim was to limit as much as possible any unnecessary detail. In order to achieve this I had to limit my time frame. If I spent too much time , knowing myself all too well , I would start looking at all the details and rendering the nuances. That being the case , I limited this 16 x 20 image to 3 hours. I had too much fun . There is always a strong urge and compulsion to go back in and start to render the form more. But it was a good exercise and last night a man walked into the Gallery and watched me paint this and said that he really liked the colors. Bingo!
I'll be finishing up on a painting that I have been working on and off for a while now during the open studio. Its a 30 x 40 .

Ok Frank, I'm really liking the way you're making that paint sing.
ReplyDeleteThe glow is the draw for me. It evoke a spiritual sense that gets me talking to the Lord.
That's something I want to learn to do with my art.
Hey Bill ... Save your shekels and join me in France next year! See my side bar for details ....
ReplyDeletethanks for the kind thoughts. I'm experiencing God's wonderful light and it's a big draw for me ... it inspires and moves me and I have to paint it. It's my worship to the Lord.

I like that colour, Frank -- reminds me of Dan Pinkham and Eric Merrill's work -- understated detail in a composition carried by the exaggerated colour. That's how Jesus created the earth, started with the big shapes and colours, and refined as He went along (...then Adam came along and messed it all up :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a successful Open House. Question--How do you use your Paypal account for anyone wanting to buy a painting from you? Do they have to have an account also?
ReplyDeleteDeborah. .... We use a Paypal account at the Gallery. The fee is about $30 a month and they also add a small transaction fee which I just add to the price. I use " virtual terminal" and it's pretty easy to navigate. So far it has been a benefit.
ReplyDeleteI really like your still lifes....sweet!
