I painted a demo for my Thursday night portrait class. I chose my friend John Downs as my subject because he is balding and the student can learn from seeing the ball of the crown of his head. The student must learn to make the head feel like its turning around the light.
We use a very simple palette. The colors. .... Titanium White , Naples Yellow , Yellow Ochre , Cad Red Light , Alizarin Crimson , and Ivory Black.
I got so into it that I kept on painting after they left. My cell phone rang around 10pm. Jana asked me if I was coming home soon. I said... glad you called. I lost track of time.
I came in early just to kinda finish it off. It's not done as I need to clean up some areas such as the hands. But I like the mood.

Welcome back Frank! We missed you! Love the portrait - great negative space!

ReplyDeleteWish I lived up your way. I'd love to learn from you.
ReplyDeleteSaw your well deserved article on the Informed Collector. Your work always sparkles with the personality of the person who is lucky enough to have their portrait done by you. Amazing!!
